“AJ” Amanda Joy Shapiro

I am a former Business Representative from the SAG-AFTRA New York City office’s Entertainment Contracts Dept., from August 2016 to August 2020. Some titles I was assigned were: Nomadland, Late Night, The Farewell, The Dead Don’t Die, Nine Days, The God Committee, 12 Hour Shift, and hundreds more!

I started my business in September 2020 to continue helping filmmakers and performers with the complex Union processes and paperwork.

My Union Consulting Services have since guided dozens of projects through the pandemic’s health and safety rules as well as the 2023 strikes, such as: Ambush, Sing Sing, Asian Persuasion, Rally Caps, The Great Lillian Hall, Muzzle, What  You Wish For, and Suncoast, as well as numerous short films that have gone on to win awards!

I’ve earned a B.A. and M.A. in film studies with honors from SUNY Stony Brook University and the University of Miami - along with having written a thesis for each program; “Western European Films and Their American Remakes” and “You Only Live Twice: The Representation of the Afterlife in Film.”

Additionally, I was a paralegal at a prominent NYC entertainment law firm and was a volunteer judge for three seasons at a Long Island film festival.
